MAPS AND DIRECTIONS

Recommendations:
Moscow has a well-developed public transportation system, with the Metro (subway) being the fastest and most convenient. It is recommended to use the Metro for travel in the city, except when going to and from the airport. Taking a taxi could be slower and more expensive, depending on the traffic.

The venue for the classes is located in the east part of the city, near the Metro station Baumanskaya (ÁÀÓÌÀÍÑÊÀß) — Dark Blue line, on the upper right of the Metro map (see below).

Taxi:
Have the receptionist in your hotel or someone who speaks Russian call a cab for you. Negotiate the price before you get in the car and pay in rubles only. Don't get into a vehicle with any other passengers whom you do not know. You should be able to get from one end of the city to another for an equivalent of about $40.

From International Airport Sheremetevo-2 (ØÅÐÅÌÅÒÜÅÂÎ-2):

Please contact the Russian co-sponsors in advance to make a taxi reservation on your behalf or to arrange a pick-up from the airport at seminarinrussia@yahoo.com. The cost is approx. $50. Take the Metro train towards the city center and transfer at the Teatralnaya (ÒÅÀÒÐÀËÜÍÀß) station to the Dark Blue line — Ploshchad Revolyutsii (ÏËÎÙÀÄÜ ÐÅÂÎËÞÖÈÈ) station. General Metro information:
The Metro is the fastest and most convenient mode of Moscow public transportation. It opens at 5:30 AM and the last train leaves at 1 AM. All transfers close at 1 AM. You may want to try to avoid the rush hour crowds on weekdays from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM and 4PM to 7:30 PM.

Throughout the city, the Metro entrances are indicated by a big red letter “M” illuminated in the evenings and at night.

The cost is about 19 rubles (= $0.80) regardless of the length of the route or number of transfers. Magnetic cards for 1, 2, 5, 10 or 20 rides (more means cheaper) must to be purchased at the Metro entrance halls.

To calculate the length (in time) of your Metro trip, count 3 minutes for each station and for each transfer.

All signs are in Russian. You may find it helpful to be able to identify the following signs:

ÍÅÒ ÂÕÎÄÀNO ENTRANCE

ÏÅÐÅÕÎÄ ÍÀ ... ËÈÍÈÞ — TRANSFER TO THE … LINE

ÂÛÕÎÄ Â ÃÎÐÎÄ — EXIT TO THE STREET

Ê ÏÎÅÇÄÀÌ ÄÎ ÑÒÀÍÖÈÉ — BOARDING PLATFORMS TO STATIONS
