Two classes to share and celebrate what we found following the ten-day exploration proposed in our letter for the New Year: (to see full letter, click here)
To support setting our intentions for a new decade, we propose a ten-day journey starting on January 1—(or if you read this after January 1, on the day you read this letter.) Each day has a proposed theme for you to follow, as a guideline:
Day 1: Gratitude for all who helped you in your life.
Day 2: Forgiving.
Day 3: Taking care—being kind to your pet, kind to yourself, your children, plants, etc.
Day 4: Looking and acknowledging how much you have
Day 5: Getting rid of what you don’t need.
Day 6: Deep listening—to someone, to yourself, to the wind and trees, to a piece of music—you choose
Day 7: Writing—you express what you see, hear, etc.
Day 8: Pure movement, rolling, hiking, being in nature (for a section of the day)
Day 9: Sending good thoughts out to others, writing letters of peace
Day 10: You choose—work on a creative project, have a day of silliness, whatever you like!
And for those who really want to go the extra mile:
Day 11: A day of rest (a delicious nap, a break from phone calls, some area that you give a rest.)
In these gatherings, each participant will have a chance to practice magical passes and witness together the exploration of these ten days plus one, and to share your findings and acknowledge: We will notice and share: What was easy to do in this exploration, what you wanted more of—and which areas you might have gotten stuck on—and how you could release blocks and move forward.
We will also look at: How have I grown in the past ten years? What harvest can I carry forward to the next year? The next five years? The next ten years? For the second class, please bring some representation of what you are intending for the coming year—a list, a dreaming board, some pictures, a poem—something that shows your intentions for this next cycle of time.
And for the second class, please bring an object that you are ready to let go of, something in good condition that another can pick up, in a celebration of redistributing or recycling energy and embracing a new time!
Also, if you have one, for both classes, please bring a music or percussion instrument, to play in acknowledgement of this new cycle where we are invited to move beyond socialized ideas of power gained from the outside, toward the true power that comes from within.
“Nobody is doing anything to anyone, much the less to a seer, a being on a path with heart,” don Juan told Carlos Castaneda. Recognizing that, Carlos Castaneda said, is the first step toward love, and leadership.

Tensegrity is the modern practice of the warrior-traveler’s path with heart which don Juan Matus taught his four students: Carlos Castaneda, Florinda Donner-Grau, Taisha Abelar and Carol Tiggs. The word ‘tensegrity’ was coined by an architect, scientist, engineer, global thinker and dreamer whom Carlos Castaneda admired: R. Buckminster Fuller. Fuller described tensegrity as a process of tensional integrity—the inherent interdependence of structures such as cells, bodies, and solar systems which are held together by a continuous web of tension (such as gravity) holding together discontinuous islands of compression (such as the sun, planets and moons in the solar system).
As a modern practice of shamanism, Tensegrity means adapting to our own energy, the energy of sun and stars, the air, water, the land, and of its inhabitants in a way that supports the interdependent integrity of the community that we are, as individual and collective beings. The tools that can help us to do this include the ancient energy-enhancing movements and breaths known as magical passes, as well as tracking and dreaming exercises, all of which we will do in this workshop.
Tracking exercises are: guided self-examination exercises practiced individually and with a peer witness, which allow one to track not only our physical patterns, but also our related mental and emotional patterns and their consequential behaviors and judgments, which we inherited from our lineage and cultures.
We can direct the energy and awareness gained from this review to access what don Juan Matus called freedom of perception—the freedom to move past any limiting interpretations of our lineage, upbringing and culture to perceive energy directly, and to dream true interdependence—new possibilities of working with others and with the earth–wherever we are, possibilities which spring from an open heart, from bringing one’s best to the interchange. |
