Reality is an interpretation we make

- Don Juan Matus

According to the seers of don Juan’s line, our perceptions of our surrounding world are shaped by our internal experience and thoughts. Our preoccupation with the negative, although often a residue of past, less-than-pleasant experiences and a media based on lack and fear, can be re-shaped today.

Modern scientist, Psychologist Dr. Daniel Goleman, concludes that with the brain’s neuroplasticity, or ability to change, we can shift our emphasis from “what goes wrong with us...to what goes right,” and thereafter experience ourselves and the world around us neither as doomed scenarios nor artificial fantasylands, but from an internal state of calm, awakened and heightened appreciation, curiosity and wonder.

And Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. suggests that we can override our “auto-immune disease of chronic discontent” by looking deeply into the questions of what is genuine happiness, when have we experienced it, who inspires us and when have we inspired ourselves.

This workshop is a doorway into a personal awakening of this mood. Through movement, sound and an opening of our physical and energetic form, self-inquiry exercises and a freeing of our minds and hearts, we will be better able to discern – who’s talking: our fearful predator or our essence inside – allowing us to choose to create a world anchored in awe.

In the workshop, each participant will:

  • explore several of their many moments of awe and then, in depth, a single such moment, discovering for themselves what and who contributed to their experience of these events, doorways into dreaming awake;
  • share their special instances in a ‘dreaming circle,’ allowing each member to enter into each other’s moments of awe, to share their awake dreams;
  • acknowledge and give thanks to all the awareness of life, all the conscious beings who contributed to their moments of awe;
  • recognize that they have all the tools necessary to consciously bring lightness and luminosity into seemingly ‘ordinary’ instances in their lives, and devise a strategy to cultivate and sustain this.

This is the art of the seers of don Juan’s line: allowing the dynamic, subtle, gentle, powerful, curious connecting awareness of Spirit in each everyday present moment!

Tensegrity® practice is the modern expression of the warrior-traveler's way of being which don Juan Matus taught his four students: Carlos Castaneda, Florinda Donner-Grau, Taisha Abelar and Carol Tiggs. Don Juan was a Yaqui Indian seer and heir to a lineage of men and women seers that originated in ancient Mexico.

The word 'tensegrity' was coined by an architect, scientist, engineer, global thinker and dreamer whom Carlos Castaneda admired: R. Buckminster Fuller. Fuller described tensegrity as a process of tensional integrity - the inherent interdependence of structures such as cells, bodies, and solar systems which are held together by a continuous web of tension (such as gravity) holding together discontinuous islands of compression (such as the sun, planets and moons in the solar system).

As a modern expression of shamanism, Tensegrity® practice means adapting to our own energy, the energy of sun and stars, the air, water, the land, and of its inhabitants in a way that supports the interdependent integrity of the community that we are, as individual and collective beings. The tools that can help us to do this include the ancient energy-enhancing movements and breaths known as Magical Passes® movements, as well as tracking and dreaming exercises, all of which we will do in this workshop.

Tracking exercises are: guided self-examination exercises practiced individually and with a peer witness, which allow one to track and free ourselves from unconscious physical, mental and emotional patterns and judgments.

One can direct the energy and awareness gained from this review to access what don Juan Matus called freedom of perception - the freedom to move past any limiting interpretations inherited from one's lineage, upbringing and culture to access the very best of that inheritance, and to perceive energy directly, and dream true interdependence - new possibilities of working with other beings - wherever we are, possibilities which spring from an open heart, from bringing one's best to the interchange.
